About IR35 Verdict

Why We Built This

IR35 Verdict exists because the tools available to UK contractors are either too expensive, too simplified, or built to serve the interests of the organisations assessing them — not the contractors being assessed.

HMRC's own CEST tool ignores Mutuality of Obligation entirely, returns an indeterminate result in roughly one in five cases, and has been successfully challenged in HMRC audits despite its official backing. Paid alternatives charge £49 to £125 for a manual review. Neither approach is good enough for contractors who need fast, accurate, trustworthy guidance.

IR35 Verdict is free to use. The calculator shows realistic take-home figures — defaulting to 220 billable days, not the theoretical 260 that inflates every competitor's numbers. The contract checker applies the six factors UK tribunals actually use, references binding case law, and includes the Autoclenz reality check that CEST omits entirely.

What Makes It Different

Transparent calculations

Every formula is shown. You can see exactly how each figure is calculated and verify it against HMRC's published rates.

Based on tribunal case law

The contract checker applies Ready Mixed Concrete, Autoclenz, PGMOL, and Atholl House — the cases that actually determine IR35 outcomes.

Honest working days default

We default to 220 days, not 260. Every unpaid day off costs a contractor money and we think that should be visible from the start.

No black box

The AI explains its reasoning for every score. You can see why each dimension is rated the way it is.

IR35 Verdict is an informational tool and does not provide legal or tax advice. Always consult a qualified contractor accountant before making decisions about your IR35 status. We recommend speaking to a specialist before your first invoice as a contractor.
